You already know breakfast is the most important meal of the day, but it doesn’t mean it’s the most exciting meal of the day when you wake up in the morning.
Sometimes you wake up hungry and other times you need to have a few drinks of water or juice before you can get your system going to feel hungry enough to want food. Some people can’t face breakfast at all and they live their mornings on coffee, but that’s not always feasible either. You want to make breakfast more exciting so that you can do better than just have cereal in the morning.
Cereal can be delicious, especially when it’s in the form of something like overnight oats. But your regular Rice Krispies with your oat milk? Not so exciting sometimes. If you want to ditch the cereal and make breakfast a more exciting option, then let’s take a look at some of our ways that you can spice up the start of your day.
- Improve your porridge. Have you been eating porridge this winter to get you through those colder mornings? It doesn’t have to be bland it also doesn’t have to be just flavoured with sugar by adding fresh fruits or nuts you can top your porridge with a variety of flavours adding a handful of seeds or nuts can give porridge the crunch that it’s missing when you add fruit you can give it some flavourful sweetness. If you’re not a fan of making your porridge crunchy, you can always drizzle honey or a sprinkle of cinnamon across the top. This transforms plain porridge into something that’s more comforting and cosy. If you want to be more exotic than that, then what about a dash of vanilla?
- Put your smoothie in a bowl. No, we’re not talking about whizzing up a smoothie just to put it into a bowl. But smoothie bowls are a more substantial breakfast than just a smoothie itself. The base ingredients are frozen fruits like bananas, berries or mangoes with a splash of yogurt or milk can keep it thick enough, but you need to then add some toppings. Think granola or chunky coconut flakes. The possibilities really are endless and you get to choose from a range of flavors that really suit you so you can customize it as much as you’d like.
- Get creative with toast. Toast is a quick and convenient way to have breakfast in the morning. You slam a slice of bread into the toaster and you can top it with whatever spread you like. But you can elevate it and get creative with it by changing up your toppings. Avocado is one of the most popular toast toppings, but when you add the avocado to fried halloumi and sweet chili and honey, that can change the flavor entirely. You can also top your toast with an almond butter and sliced bananas. This can really help with your health because almond butter is much better for you than regular margarine.
- Make eggs egg-citing. Eggs are versatile, attractive protein, so starting off with them for the day is going to help you to really elevate your protein game. With veggie packed omelettes or poached eggs over a breakfast muffin sprinkled with everything bagel seasoning, you can elevate your egg game.
