Our first product review could not have been a better one. We were fortunate enough to get to try out the delicious cookies created by Stephanie over at Caveman Cookies. In addition to Stephanie’s talent in making a delicious paleo treat, she’s also a really nice person and I’m glad I had the opportunity to get to know more about her and her company.

There are 5 flavors of Caveman Cookies: Original, Tropical, Alpine, Rainforest, & New World. We tried Original, Tropical, and New World and were so impressed with them, that I have no doubt that Alpine and Rainforest are just as delicious! Our whole family tasted the 3 flavors, and although the 2-year-old couldn’t quite vocalize her opinion, the fact that she jumped up and down when we gave her a second and stole a cookie right out of my mouth testifies to how much she really likes these cookies.
I tried to get more of a description from the two big kids on what they thought about these cookies, but they couldn’t say much since they didn’t want to stop eating them, which I take as a good thing. We also rated the flavors in order of favorite, with #1 being our most favorite. Check out our thoughts on these healthy little cookies!

Caveman Cookies – Original Flavor
Overall Impression: This was the first cookie we tasted. Even though the box says “chewy”, I wasn’t expecting them to be really chewy, but they were, and we really liked it that way. The ginger and cinnamon were the most prominent flavors to us, though it wasn’t overpowering, and the addition of raisins was just right. These cookies reminded me a lot of a classic oatmeal raisin cookie.
8-year-old: “They are chewy, in a good way. I really like the cinnamon flavor and the raisins.“
6-year-old: “I like how chewy they are, and the honey tastes good.“
‘Favorite’ Rating: #3 (or a close #2, it was hard to decide)

Caveman Cookies – Tropical Flavor
Overall Impression: We tasted the Tropical cookies second and loved the subtle nutty flavor. The ginger was very subtle and the coconut and macadamia flavors were the real standouts, with a stronger coconut aftertaste. They are very reminiscent of White Chocolate Macadmia cookies (without the chemical-filled white chocolate, of course). At this point, the Tropical is our favorite flavor.
8-year-old: “They have a good, sweet flavor.”
6-year-old: “I like the nutty flavor and the chewiness.”
‘Favorite’ Rating: #2

Caveman Cookies – New World Flavor
Overall Impression: First bite, these were instantly my favorite. Rob liked them too, but maintained that Tropical was his favorite. After eating quite a few more, he eventually realized I was right and New World is his favorite as well. I loved the fall flavor in these! The spice combination used in this cookie is just perfect. These are a bit more sweet than the Original and Tropical, as well as having a stronger (but not overpowering) flavor than the other two.
8-year-old: “I really like these, they taste pumpkiny.”
6-year-old: “The little cranberries taste really good and they’re really sweet.”
‘Favorite’ Rating: #1

So now that you’ve read what we think about the particular flavors of Caveman Cookies, let me tell you what we liked about them in general. They were actually surprisingly filling. Although they aren’t huge, they are quite dense and left me pretty satisfied after the 3 that I ate. I wound up skipping lunch after those 3 cookies and a bottle of Kombucha simply because I was no longer hungry.
Which leads me to my next point: these are the perfect anytime/anywhere snack. I can totally see taking these on our hiking and camping trips, bringing them on long car drives through the winding mountains, sending them to school for our kids’ snacks, even eating them as a treat after dinner. I would not feel bad at all about having my kids eat these for a snack or treat anytime. As with anything that contains honey, it’s best not to gorge on them, but for the occasional snack or treat, these are absolutely perfect.
