This delicious teriyaki beef bowl is made using ground beef and fits nicely into any Paleo diet plan. You could also modify it slightly to be low carb (the teriyaki sauce and carrots add carbs).
Ground Beef Teriyaki Bowl Recipe
In much of the teriyaki bowl world, you’re not going to see ground beef. We wanted to create a recipe that’s very inexpensive yet has all of the flavor and nutritional value you’re looking for. Beef is absolutely packed with loads of necessary nutrients and we try to eat it every day (if not multiple times a day).
This recipe also does not include rice. Rice is delicious but we’ve managed to live without eating it very often and have gotten used to not having rice with recipes that typically include rice. However, if you want rice, go for it.
When you’re trying to figure out how to make teriyaki beef but aren’t wanting to include harmful seed oils or soy, your best bet is to find “t” sauces. We think making your own teriyaki sauce is the best option but if you’re not in the mood – just buy it.
The right teriyaki sauce makes a difference (for health and taste), if we’re not in the mood to make it, we buy the Coco Aminos brand. Clean ingredient and tasty.
Simple Paleo Ingredients
- 1 lb Ground Beef
- 2 cloves Garlic, minced
- 2 cups Cole Slaw Mix (not prepared cole slaw)
- 1/4 cup Teriyaki Sauce (Coco Aminos)
- Sesame Seeds, for garnish
- Crushed Red Pepper Flakes, optional
We’ve listed this as 4 servings but as you can imagine… for some, this may be 1 or 2 servings. This all depends on if you typically eat a pound of meat in a sitting. 🙂
How to Make Teriyaki Beef
Heat a skillet over medium-high heat. Using paper towels, thoroughly dry the ground beef (press down hard to get as much moisture out as possible).
Drying the ground beef really helps with creating the Maillard Reaction, more on that in this post on how to cook the perfect steak.
NEXT: put ground beef in the skillet and cook until browned completely through, breaking up with a wooden spoon as it cooks.
We highly recommend using a cast iron skillet (for basically everything). Here’s a post on why you need a cast iron skillet.
THEN: Add in the garlic, cole slaw mix, and teriyaki sauce, stirring to combine. Continue cooking until the cabbage is slightly wilted, but still a little crispy, about 2-3 minutes.
Remove from heat and top with sesame seeds and crushed red pepper flakes, if desired.
In all… this meal shouldn’t take you more than 15 minutes. A great family meal in less than 20 minutes is a win! Enjoy.
